Having spent over 30 years traveling throughout Southern and East Africa, Michael Lourens founded Safari Directors through a passion for authentic African experiences and a belief that meaningful travel should feel personal, seamless and deeply rewarding.
Over the years, his experience has extended across safari operations, overland travel, hospitality and regional logistics — developing a practical understanding of both the destinations themselves and the level of care discerning travelers value throughout their journey.
Through Safari Directors, Michael focuses on creating refined travel experiences that move beyond mainstream tourism, allowing guests to experience Africa in a more authentic, comfortable and personally curated way. From remote safari regions and fly-in destinations to multi-country itineraries across Southern and East Africa, every journey is approached with attention to detail, flexibility and genuine passion for the region.
